We all engage in self crticism at some point in our lives. For some of us it’s chronic. That inner critic is contstantly putting us down, telling us we’re stupid, lazy, greedy etc. Self criticism can destroy our self confidence, convince us that we’re not good enough and even put us off doing things that will enhance our prospects and improve our lives. Someone said something very profound to me and I couldn’t wait to share it with you guys. She said:

“You’re only confined to the walls you’ve built for yourself”

Having spent years speaking to myself in a negative, self defeating and sometimes downright nasty ways and learning how the energy I put into myself can effect my health and wellbeing I’ve been trying to say positive things about myself and learn to like myself and what I can achieve. Learning to love myself will take time, as I learn to get comfortable with the concept.

What Has Changed for Me?

So I’ve changed the way I speak to myself to try to break down the self made walls and push myself to do things that I wouldn’t normally believed possible for myself. I’m making myself believe that I can be faster, stronger, more confident and able to achieve my dreams. By changing the energy of the words I use when I talk to myself I’m able to build that self confidence that takes away the power of the self criticism.

I tell myself:

  • My body is strong
  • I have healed well
  • I am full of energy
  • I am off all medication (how amazing!)
  • What I eat and drink heals me or harms me
  • My body knows what to do
These positive thoughts are what I’m trying to focus on keeping forefront to my mind. I naturally slip back into old, negative ways of speaking to myself. If I catch myself I stop, take a deep breath and say something positive to myself. Slowly but surely I’m making progress and in changing the way I speak to myself create a healing, supportive and nutruring inner voice.
